Itinerary

Depart from Kathmandu and drive to the border town of Gyirong. The road journey takes you through scenic landscapes, picturesque valleys, and the lush countryside of Nepal. Upon reaching Gyirong, you'll notice the increasing altitude and the cooler climate of the Tibetan plateau. Gyirong is the last town in Tibet before entering Nepal and serves as a gateway for travelers between the two countries.

Leave Gyirong and continue the journey into Tibet. As you ascend higher into the Tibetan plateau, you'll be captivated by the magnificent views of snow-capped mountains and the vast open landscapes. Shigatse, the second-largest city in Tibet, welcomes you with its rich cultural heritage and historical significance. Here, you'll visit the famous Tashilhunpo Monastery, one of the most important monastic institutions in Tibetan Buddhism and the traditional seat of the Panchen Lama.

Set off from Shigatse and head towards Lhasa, the spiritual heart of Tibet. The drive offers panoramic views of the Tibetan plateau, including the picturesque Yamdrok Lake, known for its turquoise waters. As you approach Lhasa, you'll notice the increasing signs of Tibetan culture and spirituality. Lhasa is renowned for its historical landmarks, and it's here that you'll visit the magnificent Potala Palace, the revered Jokhang Temple, and the bustling Barkhor Street.

Explore the wonders of Lhasa on this day. Visit the grand Potala Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the former residence of the Dalai Lama. Discover the spiritual atmosphere at the Jokhang Temple, an important pilgrimage site for Tibetan Buddhists. Stroll through the bustling Barkhor Street, where you can shop for traditional Tibetan souvenirs and experience the local culture.

Embark on a scenic drive to Gyantse, a town known for its rich history and unique Tibetan architecture. En route, you'll pass through scenic valleys and charming Tibetan villages. In Gyantse, explore the Gyantse Dzong and the famous Kumbum Stupa, an architectural masterpiece with its numerous chapels adorned with intricate murals.

After breakfast in Gyantse, depart for Shigatse. The short drive takes you to the second-largest city in Tibet, known for its historical significance and the famous Tashilhunpo Monastery. Explore the monastery and its intricate architecture before spending the night in Shigatse.

The road from Shigatse to Kyirong (Nepal/Tibet Border) takes you through picturesque landscapes, traditional Tibetan villages, and beautiful valleys, offering stunning views of the Himalayan ranges and the Tibetan plateau.

Complete the necessary immigration and customs formalities to exit Tibet and enter Nepal at the Kyirong border. After crossing the border, continue the road journey to Kathmandu. The drive offers breathtaking views of the Himalayan ranges and the lush valleys of Nepal. You'll descend from the higher altitudes to the lower plains as you approach Kathmandu.
