Thupten Chholing Monastery, located in the Solu region of eastern Nepal, is a significant center of Tibetan Buddhism and a symbol of resilience and spiritual perseverance. Its history is closely tied to the turbulent events of the mid-20th century, particularly the Chinese invasion of Tibet, which led to a mass exodus of Tibetans, including some of the most revered spiritual leaders.
The monastery was founded in the early 1960s by His Holiness Trulshik Rinpoche, a highly revered Tibetan lama and one of the main disciples of the legendary Dzatrul Rinpoche. Trulshik Rinpoche was forced to flee Tibet during the Chinese invasion in 1959, like many other lamas and monks. After seeking refuge in Nepal, he eventually settled in the Solu Khumbu region, where he established the Thupten Chholing Monastery. Trulshik Rinpoche chose this remote location, surrounded by dense forests and towering Himalayan peaks, as it provided a peaceful environment for spiritual practice and meditation. Over time, the monastery became a significant center for Nyingma Buddhism, one of the oldest schools of Tibetan Buddhism
